For this assignment, students will be asked to read the three texts and write an alternate ending that shows a character speaking out against the social structure that is in place.  Using some historical research from similar moments in history, students will analyze possible consequences and outcomes: both positive and negative.  These alternate endings will be shared as a class and will be used to develop discussion and debate about the restricted states the characters are in and the likelihood and ease of getting out would be.

Multimodal Extensions and Options:

-Write a play including an alternate ending

-Create a movie showing both outcomes to compare and contrast

-Write a persuasive letter to the country's leaders with supported research of why policies should change.
